Fact-Checker Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced fact-checker to join our team.

About Us: This is an independent and dynamic organisation dedicated to promoting truth and accuracy in the media and public discourse.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and debunk misinformation: Monitor social media platforms, news outlets, and other sources to identify false news, misinformation, and disinformation trends.
  • Verify claims: Utilise online tools, databases, and investigative techniques to verify claims and assess their credibility.
  • Conduct on-the-ground research: Conduct field reporting and in-depth research to substantiate or debunk stories.
  • Produce high-quality articles: Write clear, engaging, and well-researched weekly fact-check articles to inform and educate our audience.

Requirements:

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of journalism experience; investigative reporting experience is preferred.
  • Start-Up Experience: Experience working at a start-up or dynamic team environment is preferred.
  • Language Skills: Strong command over written and spoken English; working knowledge of another regional language is a plus.
  • Social Media Expertise: Understanding of disinformation networks and how misinformation spreads across multiple social media platforms.
  • Research and Writing: Demonstrated ability to conduct thorough research and produce compelling, unbiased and evidence-based articles.
  • Cultural Insight: Deep understanding of Pakistan's political and cultural landscape.
  • Education: An undergraduate degree is required; a master's degree is preferred.
