Operational Risk Specialist Job Description

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive operational risk assessments of bank branches and units, reviewing policies and procedures to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with business representatives to receive control and risk metrics, monitoring operational risk key performance indicators (KRIs).
  • Regularly review bank policies, procedures, and products to identify gaps and ensure compliance with regulations and industry standards.
  • Review risk assessment reports and confirm that bank-wide risk registers, KRIs, KPIs, and internal control sample testing are effectively implemented.
  • Develop and implement incident reporting, loss database, and risk management tools.
  • Support the development of mechanisms for incident reporting and loss data base coverage.
  • Report and escalate significant operational risk events.
  • Quantify operational risk using incidents and loss database modeling.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for relevant events and provide updates to senior management.

Awareness and Training:

  • Deliver awareness and training sessions at assigned branches.

Reporting and Data Maintenance:

  • Prepare and maintain regular reports or special task reports.

Technical Competencies and Skills:

  • Effective interpersonal, communication, team building, and leadership skills.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Sound knowledge of banking products/process and policies.
  • Interpersonal skills.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Economics, or related fields.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in accounting, finance, risk management, or banking industry-related roles.
