Position Overview

The Head of Department (HoD)- Education will provide academic and administrative leadership for undergraduate teacher education programs, ensuring compliance with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and National Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (NACTE) standards. The HoD will oversee curriculum implementation, faculty development, quality assurance, and effective management of teaching and learning processes within the department.

Key Responsibilities

Academic & Program Leadership

• Lead the design, implementation, and periodic review of undergraduate programs in Education (e.g., B.Ed. [Hons] 4-year, B.Ed. 2.5-year, B.Ed. 1.5 year and related degrees) in line with HEC and NACTE standards.
• Ensure outcome-based education (OBE) framework and learning objectives are effectively incorporated.
• Supervise preparation and submission of Self-Assessment Reports (SARs) and other accreditation documentation.
• Coordinate practicum/internship placements in partner schools as required by teacher education programs.
• Promote a culture of quality teaching, research, and innovation in the department.
• Own the target for their specific program like filling the seats
• Work closely with the admissions department to define eligibility, conduct interviews, and finalize admissions.
• Ensure that the quality of students admitted aligns with the program's academic standards.
• Review conversion data (inquiries → applicants → enrollments) for the department weekly.

Administration & Compliance

• Manage departmental operations including course allocations, timetabling, and faculty workload distribution.
• Ensure compliance with HEC faculty qualification criteria, program credit hours, and curriculum benchmarks.
• Maintain updated departmental records, policies, and procedures for HEC/NACTE visits and inspections.
• Supervise faculty recruitment, performance evaluation, mentoring, and professional development.
• Oversee academic advising and student support mechanisms for the Education program.

Research & Capacity Building

• Encourage and facilitate faculty research, publications, and collaborative projects in education.
• Supervise undergraduate research projects and promote scholarly activities.
• Organize seminars, workshops, and training programs for faculty and students.

External Linkages & Engagement

• Develop partnerships with schools, teacher training institutions, and education stakeholders for practicum and collaborative initiatives.
• Represent the department in academic networks, conferences, and professional associations.
• Strengthen community engagement and contribute to education policy/practice discourse.
• Participate in marketing videos, webinars, and open houses to represent the academic perspective.
• Approve academic details on marketing materials (eligibility, curriculum, outcomes).
• Review shortlisted applicants for program suitability and interview participation.
• Ensure admissions align with departmental standards and accreditation criteria.
• Engage with prospective students during open houses or orientation to strengthen program appeal.
• Provide academic insight to refine marketing messaging and admissions criteria.

Qualifications & Experience (HEC-Aligned)

• Minimum Qualification:
  M.Phil. in Education/Teacher Education/ MS Educational Leadership and Management (ELM) or a closely related field (recognized by HEC).
• At least
  5 years of teaching/research experience
  at the university level, including leadership/administrative experience.
• Evidence of
  research publications
  in HEC-recognized journals.
• Experience in curriculum development, program accreditation, and quality assurance.
• Strong record of supervising undergraduate or postgraduate research.
• Familiarity with
  HEC Teacher Education Roadmap
  and NACTE accreditation processes is highly desirable.
