The Department of Surgery provides comprehensive and sub-specialty care in the areas of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Dental-Oral, Maxillo-facial Surgery, General Surgery, Breast Surgery, Neurosurgery, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedic Surgery, Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, Paediatric Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Urology and Vascular Surgery. The Department has 115 full-time and part-time faculty with a strong commitment towards teaching and research. Formal structured undergraduate teaching, postgraduate residency and fellowship programmes are integrated into the academic functions of the department.

The Aga Khan University invites applications for the position of Resident Medical Officer (General Surgery), Department of Surgery.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible to:

  1. perform regular duties and on calls and conduct rounds with Consultants in the assigned ward
  2. do pre-operative assessment and complete required paperwork
  3. coordinate with primary teams as required for continuity of care
  4. display effective and relevant documentation with quality record keeping of clinical notes, progress notes, and discharge summaries as indicated
  5. exhibit procedural skills in assistance and/or independently (where applicable) displaying the prudence and precaution that avoids potential complications
  6. ensure that patients are given correct post-operative medications/instructions and explain them about their health care needs
  7. remain updated on infection control procedures and follow the same accordingly.
Requirements

You should have:

  1. an MBBS from an institution recognized by PMDC
  2. FCPS part I in General Surgery
  3. one year internship with six months in Surgery and allied and six months in Medicine and allied disciplines
  4. strong interpersonal and communication skills.
