Assistant Purchasing Manager

The Assistant Purchasing Manager role is a vital position that requires strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

This position involves managing all aspects of purchasing, including sourcing, price negotiations, transportation planning, and product development. The successful candidate will be able to analyze and forecast product sales volume and market demands, and create purchase orders based on these forecasts.

The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of Japanese food purchasing experience and possess basic mathematical knowledge such as markups, discounts, counting inventory, weight and measurement conversions, combining, etc.

In addition to purchasing duties, the Assistant Purchasing Manager will also be responsible for maintaining relationships with suppliers, ensuring product quality, timely delivery, and compliance with contracts.

The Assistant Purchasing Manager will work closely with the purchasing team to build and maintain relationships with suppliers, and will be responsible for setting up vendor numbers and item stock numbers in a timely manner.

This role requires strong customer service and problem-solving skills, as well as strong communications and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will also have basic Microsoft Office proficiency and knowledge of ERP systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Issues purchase orders to suppliers based on designated stock levels and lead times.
  • Assists department manager to manage all purchasing department personnel matters and job performances.
  • Maintains and analyzes order receiving records from different suppliers, including quality and quantities.
  • Evaluates and assures the qualities of received items are consistent with purchase orders.
  • Ensures product quality by sampling and customer feedback; addresses problems to suppliers and resolves issues.
  • Researches and selects prospective vendors and negotiates prices/contracts.
  • Coordinates with purchasing team to build and maintain relationships with suppliers.
  • Sets up vendor numbers and item stock numbers in a timely manner.
  • Analyzes and forecasts product sales volume and market demands.
  • Creates purchase orders based on sales volume, demands, and inventory level.

Requirements:

  • Business level English required.
  • Business level Japanese required.
  • Maintains a positive attitude.
  • Able to work independently and as a team.
  • Able to adapt to frequent changes in assignments and workload.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's Degree in business preferred.
